On Tuesday the 7th of March, the Enterprise Waterford County final took place in the park hotel, Dungarvan. Earlier on in the year, all of our Pres TYs made mini businesses, as part of their school enterprise and the few of the year group whose products really stood out got chosen to go to the county finals. At this event, their businesses got reviewed by a panel of judges, who then chose a single business to progress to the national competition.
There was many attendees from Presentation; Hannah Cummins and Lilly Rafferty with “God That’s Lovely”, a brand of scented bath salts, Tipyan Abd Alnaby, Maimouna Traore and Paula Staszewska with “MPT Productions”, their beauty and fashion brand, Karla Antonija Lucic and Amy Kelly with "Oasis soap", their brand of beautiful looking and smelling soaps, Holly Power with “Holly's Homemade goods”, specialising in fresh brown bread, Angie Goma, Katie Joubert, Elena de Felipe and Julia Serrano, with Brillo cosmetics, a brand of lip-gloss keychains, and finally Kate Walsh, Ruby Walsh, Lauren O'Sullivan and Sarah Hoffmann with “Canine Couture”, their brand of bandanas for dogs!
All of these products had to be brilliant to even get to this stage, but one was specifically outstanding, with Kate, Ruby, Lauren and Sarah getting second place with “Canine Couture”! The girls from this group stated that they “all have [their] own pets and wanted to make something [they] would actually buy that was unique and different.” Of course, in the world we live in today, sustainability was a big factor to the making of their dog bandanas and, when mentioned, Sarah Hoffman took the lead to tell us all about how they made sure to be as environmentally friendly as possible, “We first looked to buying from local shops, we thought it was also important to support our community. We also looked at our packaging and made sure it was recyclable and recycled”. They finished off by giving some advice to future students participating in the Enterprise program saying “to use this opportunity and its always better to start sooner rather than later as time management is a big part of it and of course have fun and even if you might not like the idea of it, to just give it a chance as it really did grow on all of us and its one of our favourite memories from TY!”.
Well done to all the TY students involved, there was clearly a huge amount of hard work and commitment involved, and thank you to the enterprise teachers, Ms. Walsh, Ms. Meagher and Ms. Giyazova for all the help and organization with the event!
